The central electronic module (CEM) controls a lot of the cars functions, for example the lighting. Typicalls failures of the V40 and S40, like faulty headlights, are often caused by a broken CEM.
These controllers are not only a reconditioned ECU, but also a refurbished controller. As part of the overhaul all modules
which are prone to defects are replaced.
For cars untill the year 2000:
Due to the different headlight types (Single- Double or Xenon) it can be neccessary to adapt the CEM to the cars configuration by software. The software is only available at Volvo dealers.
